Why You Can Trust SmartJudge With Your Information

We understand that divorce finances are deeply personal. Here is exactly what we do - and don’t do - with your data.

My Information is encrypted and stored securely

All data you enter is stored in Google Firebase Firestore, one of the world’s most widely used cloud databases, protected by Google’s enterprise-grade security infrastructure. My Information is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).

Access to your account is protected by secure session tokens. We also use Firebase App Check, which prevents automated scripts or bots from accessing our API.

You control who can get into your account

Beyond your password, you can add extra protection from the My Information screen. Turn on faster, passwordless sign-in with Face ID or your fingerprint (a passkey), or add two-factor authentication - a one-time code from an authenticator app, required alongside your password. Both are optional, take under a minute to set up, and can be turned off again at any time.

We are ICO registered

What Would a Judge Say? Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO Registration: ZB810938), England’s independent data protection regulator. This means we are legally accountable for how we handle your personal data under UK GDPR.

The legal content is checked, and the citations are real

Your assessment can only cite from a curated list of England and Wales authorities that has been reviewed by a practising family law solicitor. A technical guardrail checks every citation in a report against that list before the report is saved - a case that is not on the list blocks the report outright, so the system cannot invent a judgment even if the model produces one.

The legal framing itself - the way we apply the Section 25 factors, and the questions we ask to get there - is reviewed by a solicitor at Paradigm Family Law, who signs off any change that affects it.

How an assessment is actually produced is set out on Why SmartJudge, and who reviews it on About.

My Information is never sold or shared

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your financial information is used solely to generate your SmartJudge assessment. It is never passed to advertisers, data brokers, or other commercial organisations.

A small number of carefully vetted service providers process your data only to run the service - strictly under data processing agreements, and never for their own purposes or for marketing:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud - secure database, file storage and sign-in (UK-hosted)
  • Vercel - the hosting that serves the app
  • Anthropic (Claude) - the AI model that generates your assessment
  • OpenAI - finds comparable published judgments for your case; it receives a short summary of your case facts (figures such as pot size and marriage length), never your name, contact details, or account numbers
  • Upstash - rate limiting, to keep the service available and prevent abuse
  • Resend - sends service emails and, if you ask, your report by email
  • PostHog - privacy-first, cookieless usage analytics

Anthropic and OpenAI process data in the United States under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum. For the full, current list of processors and where they are based, see our Privacy Policy.

You are in complete control

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time. You can exercise these rights directly from within the app - no need to email us or fill in a form. Visit My Information when signed in to download everything we hold about you or to delete your account and all associated data permanently.

If you have questions about how we handle your data, you can read our full Privacy Policy or contact us at privacy@whatwouldajudgesay.com.

Personal details are optional

SmartJudge does not require your name, address, or any personally identifying information to generate your assessment. You can complete the full financial picture using figures and descriptions only. Personal details - if you choose to provide them - are used solely to personalise your report and are never used for identification or verification purposes.

Rate limiting and abuse prevention

To protect all users, our AI chatbot and report-generation features are protected by rate limiting (via Upstash Redis). This prevents misuse and ensures the service remains available and responsive for everyone.
